What is an FKM lined hose assembly?
FKM (Fluoroelastomer) / Viton® are types of synthetic rubber materials known for their excellent resistance to heat, chemicals, and various fluids. These materials are commonly used in applications where regular rubber would deteriorate due to exposure to harsh conditions.
FKM is a type of synthetic rubber that is highly resistant to heat, chemicals, and fuels. It exhibits excellent performance in high-temperature environments and has exceptional resistance to a wide range of chemicals, oils, solvents, acids, and bases. FKM is often used in applications such as automotive seals, gaskets, O-rings, and industrial seals where resistance to aggressive fluids and high temperatures is required.
Additionally, Viton® is a specific brand of fluoroelastomer developed by DuPont®. It has become synonymous with high-performance fluoroelastomers in general. Viton® offers similar properties to FKM, including resistance to high temperatures and a wide variety of chemicals. It is particularly well-known for its use in the aerospace, automotive, and chemical processing industries.
In the case of FKM or Viton lined hose assemblies, the hoses are designed to handle aggressive fluids, chemicals, and high-temperature environments. These hoses consist of an inner tube or lining made from FKM or Viton material, surrounded by reinforcement layers and an outer protective cover.
These hose assemblies have;
- Excellent chemical resistance
- High temperature resistance
- Good pressure and vacuum resistance
